Sustainable Palm Oil in Ghana

Description of Project

Palm Oil is an environmentally controversial sector due to non sustainable practices carried our through decades, mainly in South East Asia (Malaysia and neighbouring countries). European certification demands puts pressure on the industry to transit to sustainable approaches that apply a value chain and circular economy approach.

The palm oil tree’s natural habitat is originally Ghana. Thus, Ghana represent quite an amount of palm oil plantations and production facilities. Besides, Ghana is the first African country that has officially been approved and certified to live up the EUs standards.

The project concentrates on developing a new palm oil plantation of initially 4000 hectares, growing to 10.000 hectares over the next years.

Ensure the sustainability aspect by optimising the value chain (applying sustainable practices in terms of utilizing biological rest materials for local biogas production, utilizing nut shells for local wood chip production, implementing practices that i.e. includes that no materials are burned, etc.
