Starting Point & Challenge

The Nordic countries have gained a global reputation for their progressive, innovative and foremost human-centred approach to sustainable urban development. Many businesses and providers for sustainable city solutions started to serve cities outside of the Nordic region building on their years of experience. Nordic Innovation and the Nordic Council of Ministers decided to support this outgoing journey with a variety of export promotion programs.

Our approach

The Nordic Master Class for Sustainable Urban Development was in its core an export promotion program. It made use of an interactive learning program resting on the conviction that knowledge sharing and obtaining hands-on learning experiences create a positive effect on demand. The master class programs combined eclectic modes for learning such as workshops, lectures, walks, tours and experimentation. The program's content was co-created together with private and public stakeholders, from a variety of sectors, and all Nordic countries.

In total, 52 participants joined the program. 21 companies and agencies from Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Iceland shared their knowledge, insights and solutions with master class participants.
